The Nick Linn Lecture Series is our annual winter lecture and luncheon series featuring four major bestselling authors.  The series is named for Friends past president, long-time board member and benefactor Nick Linn.

Kate Quinn

Kate Quinn is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of historical fiction. She has written four novels in the Empress of Rome Saga, and two books in the Italian Renaissance, before turning to the 20th century with New York Times bestsellers The Alice Network and The Huntress.

In the summer of 2017, Reese Witherspoon selected The Alice Network for her book club, and it was also selected as an Amazon Best Book of the Month, a GoodReads Best Books of the Month, and an NPR Best Book of the Year. The Huntress has earned similar accolades, and was recognized as a February Library Reads pick, a March Indie Next Pick, and one of Marie Claire’s Best Women’s Fiction Books of the Year. The Rose Code, was published in March 2021. Her latest novel, The Diamond Eye, was released in March 2022.

William Kent Krueger

William Kent Krueger writes a mystery series set in the north woods of Minnesota. His protagonist is Cork O’Connor, the former sheriff of Tamarack County and a man of mixed heritage—part Irish and part Ojibwe. His work has received a number of awards, including the Minnesota Book Award, the Loft-McKnight Fiction Award, the Anthony Award, the Barry Award, the Dilys Award, and the Friends of American Writers Prize. His last nine novels were all New York Times  bestsellers.

Ordinary Grace, his stand-alone novel published in 2013, received the Edgar Award, given by the Mystery Writers of America in recognition for the best novel published in that year. The companion novel, This Tender Land, was published in September 2019, and spent nearly six months in the top ten of the New York Times bestseller list. His most recent novel, The River We Remember, was published in September 2023 and an instant New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today, and International Bestseller.

Jamie Ford

Jamie Ford is the great-grandson of Nevada mining pioneer, Min Chung, who emigrated from Kaiping, China to San Francisco in 1865, where he adopted the western name “Ford,” thus confusing countless generations. His debut, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, spent two years on the New York Times bestseller list and won the Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature. His second book, Songs of Willow Frost, was also a national bestseller. His work has been translated into 35 languages. (He’s still holding out for Klingon, because that’s when you know you’ve made it). His latest novel, The Many Daughters of Afong Moy, was released in August 2022.
